Metropolitan Choral Honours Camp 2019

We are very proud of our extensive music program at Hilder Road State School. Students at the school have opportunities to perform not only on-site but also outside in the community. We would like to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of our school community in enriching our music program to the standard it is now. It is our sincere anticipation that music education will thrive and go from strength to strength at Hilder Road State School and that students engage actively, safely and competently in their musicianship learning during their time at school and beyond.

Music Staff and Programs

Welcome to Hilder Road State School's Music Page. We hope you can join us for this year's music adventure. We currently have a dedicated group of people teaching the music program at Hilder Road State School, and without their continued commitments and tremendous skill, we would not be able to continue our adventure!

  • Ms Jaime Rolfe: Classroom Music & Choral Program (Preps - Year 6)

  •

  • Mrs Nadine Dinnis: Strings Program (Orchestral Strings for students in Years 3-6)

  •

  • Mrs Carmen Forgan: Band Program (Wind & Percussion for students in Years 4-6)

  •

  • Ms Kerry Beaumont: Choral accompanist

Musical Mission

The weekly music lessons offered at Hilder Road State School follow the guidelines and syllabus set by the State Government, Education Queensland. We believe in the importance of training students' aural skills, based on the Hungarian music educator Zoltan Kodaly, so that they can recognise, read, write and play music. Moreover we recognise other musical methodologies like Orff, Dalcroze and Zuzuki to name just a few, but they are all integrated in our music education approach at Hilder Road.

We participate in a number of instrumental and choral festivals within the wider community, where students undergo professional development with their peers from other neighbouring schools. This is then highlighted with a communal massed concert at world-class venues that provide a wealth of performance experience for everyone. This is the norm with the kind of Music education we adopt at Hilder Road State School.  Students are empowered and encouraged as young musicians, to not only shine as performers but to uplift audience members too.
