Hilder Road State School is a co-educational primary school located in The Gap, Brisbane with a current enrolment of 481 students across Prep to Year 6. Hilder Road State School opened in 1979, and our community is proud of the achievements, traditions and community spirit nurtured over the past 44 years by current and former families, staff and students.

Our explicit focus on developing independent, flexible and self-regulating learners through quality teaching, leadership and community partnerships has been formally recognised in the following ways:

  • Regional Award – The RemServ Showcase Award for Excellence in Community Engagement (Fish Creek Project)

  • Minister’s Grand Prize – Healthy Land and Water Awards (Fish Creek Project)

  • Regional Award – P&C of the Year Award

  • State Award – Outdoors Queensland Award, Nature Play Education Category (Forest School)

  • Recognition by ACARA – Demonstrated substantially above average gain in reading (Years 3 – 5).

Our academic success is testament to the quality teaching programs that our teachers implement in every class, every day. We also have award winning programs, such as Story Dogs, and other signature programs, such as Chatting Children and Outdoor Learning, that ensure we provide highly engaging, evidence-based learning experiences that support every student at Hilder Road State School.

HRSS is committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment for students and staff. We consider the Student Code of Conduct (PDF, 23MB) to be an opportunity for valuable social learning as well as a means of maximising the success of academic education programs. Our school-wide framework for managing behaviour is Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL).

Through PBL, our school community has identified explicit behaviour expectations and use the H.E.R.O. model to teach and promote our high standards of responsible behaviour:

  • H – Harmonious

  • E – Engaged

  • R – Responsible

  • O – Organised

Supporting our students to be ‘Hilder Heroes’ provides the foundation for learning and is at the heart of creating positive classroom climates.
