At Hilder Road State School, music is an important part of every child's education. All students from Prep to Year 6 enjoy a 30-minute specialist music lesson each week, delivered by our experienced music teachers. These lessons are aligned with the Australian Curriculum and provide students with a rich, hands-on learning experience that nurtures creativity, curiosity and a love of music.
Our classroom music program focuses on developing students' musical understanding through singing, movement, instrument play and active listening. Students explore key musical concepts such as beat, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics and expression in fun and engaging ways. They are encouraged to experiment, create and perform, building both skill and confidence over their time as a Hilder Road State School Learner.
Music at Hilder Road extends beyond the classroom with a range of exciting and enriching opportunities available to students. Our Junior and Senior Choirs rehearse weekly and perform at school events and community celebrations, allowing students to further develop vocal and performance skills in a team environment. We also offer an Instrumental Music Program, where students can learn a band (both strings and percussion) instrument and participate in ensembles led by visiting specialist teachers.
To complement our regular program, Hilder Road proudly stages a whole-school musical every two years. This event brings together students, staff and families in a celebration of drama, music, and performance. It is a unique opportunity for students to showcase their talents, build confidence and experience the joy of a live production.
Together, these programs reflect our strong commitment to the arts and provide a well-rounded, high-quality music education for every student. At Hilder Road, we believe that music has the power to inspire, connect, and create lifelong memories, and we're proud to offer our learners something truly special.
