In 2026, Hilder Road State School moved into a new sporting district known as West District School Sport. The previous North West District structure no longer exists.
One important change is that West District trials now cater for students aged 10–19 years. As a primary school, Hilder Road students are only eligible for the 10–12 years divisions, which can sometimes create confusion when trial information lists older age groups.

How the Trial Process Works
Trial information is usually sent to schools 10–14 days before nominations close. When this information is received, Year 4–6 students are informed through their classroom teachers.
Interested students are asked to see the HPE teacher to collect nomination paperwork and discuss their suitability for nomination.
When considering nominations, factors such as the following may be discussed:
District guidelines allow a maximum of four students per school to be nominated for each 10–12 years trial (or per age group if separated).
District trials are designed for students already competing at a high level, typically through club sport and with strong game knowledge. School sport, gala days and community clubs remain excellent opportunities for students who are continuing to develop their skills.
Registration and Approval
If selected for nomination, families must complete the online registration form using the QR code provided on the nomination form. This is submitted directly to the West District Office.
If the student is accepted into the trial, parents will be contacted by the District Convenor and asked to complete a second digital form. This form must be returned to the Hilder Road HPE teacher, who will submit it to the district portal.
Students cannot attend trials without this documentation being completed.
Please note:
Principal approval is required before any student attends a district trial.
Nomination timelines can be very short due to district deadlines.
Trials may occasionally be cancelled or changed by the West District Office.
